About Jud

I started working and trying to figure out how the human might be able to get along better with this amazing animal at the age of 15. I saw how people, even myself, had problems with things and tried to make the horse to fit what we wanted to have happen. Nothing would ever go smooth and I thought that there has got to be a better way for the horse and human. I started reading books, watching videos, and attending clinics. I still was not completely satisfied with myself and the horses. Then one day I met a fella (James Shriver). He told me of two men named Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance and that I needed to do some research on them. James was a great horseman and would come and help me with my horses I was riding and that's when it all started changing for the better. I went to a Ray Hunt clinic and met Ray. He told me that I was not working on the horses level but on mine. I was dragging the horse down where I was at and it just wasn't working. Some horses would put up with me but some wouldn't. In 2007 I was 1 of the 5 people chosen to spend 2 months with Ray Hunt  at Bill Muncaster's Diamond M ranch in north Texas. We started colts, halter broke yearlings and rode some already started horses all under Ray's watchful eye. Buck Brannaman and Tom Curtain came and spent a couple weeks with us at Ray's which was helpful also. The way that I worked with the horse was no where close to what I learned there. I learned that I needed to change with every horse to fit the situation and work from where the horse was at , not train on them. They are more sensetive then people think and they are living, breathing, feeling and decision making animals just like us. I also learned how important it was to keep the horses life up and keep them on a line which is very important. Ray taught me that you can not learn this from a book, video, or even a clinic. The only way to learn it is through experience. The horse is our best teacher. I now am constantly changing and experimenting everyday and looking for the smallest change and slightest try. I went back to spend another month with Ray in 2008. I'd like to thank Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt and James Shriver for helping me change from what I would call a horse trainer to a horseman, with a special thanks to the horse.
